Let’s take a moment here and travel deep into the world of cinemagraphs or simply put, subtly animated photographs. These are some of my favourite ones.

How To Draw A Perfect Circle. It really works!

Check out bottleLoft strips. Hang your beer bottles on the roof of your refrigerator using this strip of magnets so as to maximize the storage space in your fridge. No more taking everything out or shoving the bottles/jars in whatever crevices you can find. This idea is simple and brilliant. Definitely one of those “why didn’t I think of that earlier?” moments.

Available for purchase on Kickstarter.

Très Chic

Lots of white and pastel hues with occasional pops of neon. I think these spaces designed by Ukraine-based Mooseberry Group are incredibly happy and pleasing to the eyes.

10pm Tunes

Thought I’d popped by here and share with you some of my most-played tracks this week 🙂 It’s time to put dat headphones on…

Chasing Delicious

Sometimes, life gives you a perfect afternoon to rejuvenate and reconnect with the ones you treasure. Savoury, sweet and subtle sum up the flavours of the week. Last weekend, E and I made a trip to La Petite Cuisine at Serene Centre. If you’re looking for good and affordable French food, you must try the food at this place. It’s an unpretentious and fuss-free bistro which serves value for money (most of them are under the price tag of $20) and French comfort food. Oh there’s no service charge and GST as well.

The place is quite easy to spot. Just lookout for their red checked tables that lined from the corridor to the interiors. For a start, we tasted the Escargots on Croissant. The bread was so awesome. Buttery and soft. For a moment, I felt like I was floating in croissant heaven. I don’t usually eat escargots but when I popped one in my mouth, the first taste was quite shocking. It tasted dark and dirty..I swear I could smell the scent of grass. Probably the patch of grass where this poor snail once roamed. Oops. The magic began when we tasted the Salmon with Rice and Duck Confit w Potato Gratin. Both were pretty good in my opinion. Nothing to rant about. Portions were also quite generous.

Fun fact: If you look around the restaurant, you will surely spot a big guy with dreary eyes and a mustache peering out from the kitchen time to time. Yeah, you’re right. That’s Mr Chef!

Kranji Countryside Farmers’ Market – Neo Tiew Crescent

I’ve been visiting our local “atas” markets quite a bit recently. Last weekend, I brought my mum to check out Pasarbella. This week, we trotted over to the West area, armed with eco bags to store our shopping loots. Fresh seafood, homemade banana cakes, quail eggs and organic greens are just some things you can find at the quarterly held Farmers’ Market. It’s a fair featuring some of the island’s very own farmers and gourmet food makers (e.g. Skygreens, Bollywood Veggies, The Hunter’s Kitchenette. GSH Conserves, Soi 55 Thai Iced Tea and Uncle G’s Roast Meats).

I like the concept of farmers’ markets, specifically the good smells, atmosphere and the sense of occasion. However, products for sale don’t come cheap. A pack of spring onions for example will set you back at $3 vs the price at our neighbourhood wet markets of $0.30-$0.50. Of course, those people who are willing to pay for this price are probably more concerned about where their food came from and its process. People tend to equate farmer’s market with clean and wholesome food. Then again, I wonder how do people judge or certify that the product is really grown organically and eco-friendly?

The fair officially opens at 2pm. We arrived at 1.45pm via the Shuttle Bus from Yew Tee Mrt Station and were pleasantly surprised to see a steady stream of visitors walking in.

Skygreens stall selling maize, sprouts xiao bai cai, kai lan, alfafa and many more…

The event area is well-ventilated and sheltered so visitors can shop at ease.IMG_4431.JPG

I heard Uncle William’s quail eggs were sold out within two hours!
